Survivor Celebration - Inspiring and Empowering Cancer Survivors

As I am technically in remission at the moment, and my husband also may be after 3 months more chemo, how do I cope now?
I think we have gone through everything pretty calmly and are now in a better place, or should be, but I think I have post traumatic stress. I have always been like this, I cope with things at the time but react later.
Also we have had a lot of attention and care and now this will not be so much,so that support will go.
I am very frightened all the time of recurrence for both of us as well.
How do people cope?

It is very scary. I felt alone and like what's next. I know it is very hard. Just put one foot in front of the other and keeping moving. I pray you won't be frightened, you have to believe it is finished and the cancer will not come back. Be very positive and keep your energy high. Take lots of walks and enjoy your life right now. Do as much as you can and enjoy life to the fullest. I take lots of walks on the beach and just thank God every day that I'm here & in remission. Embrace your husband and tell him every day how much you love him. Don't take anything for granted. Life is to short.
Let me know how you are doing?
Blessings,
Jane
Hello Helena,

You're not alone. As Jane said earlier, you have support here (even if we are 6,000 miles apart, that's ok). Please reach out to us anytime about anything. I know it's frightening, but you can get through and not only survive, but thrive. Just try (I know it's hard) to relax while learning as much as you can about things that may help you and can help you and will help you. Also, you have our prayers and we encourage you to pray often -- and with your husband. It can make a difference.

My best,

A.J.
Dear Helena,
I too have been dealing with the word remission! As my surgeon told me.....I now have tomorrow.
It struck a big cord in my heart, and now I am taking things one day at a time, and trying my best to have the best tomorrow that I can. The PTSD I can understand. Do you have any local support groups close to you?? I never had any type of followup after my bi-lateral mastectomy in 91. And as it was not staged, never saw an onco, just had a bad reconstruction done, and then it was fixed in another surgery. So I too have alot of baggage from the past, and now in remission from colon-rectal cancer, I am overwhelmed at times.
Keeping you and your husband in my healing prayers,
Laurie
