Christine LeGrant commented on A.J. Ali's group Colorectal Cancer
"I agree. Letting others help is hard at first, but great when you get used to it. When I was in treatment, it was the first time in my life I was spoiled rotten, and it did have its perks. You DO need to expect a little less of yourself. You just…"

"There's one woman in this group who's had Stage IV for 11 years. Some Stage IV long term survivors are disease free, and others are living with their cancer. The key is surviving. Check out my favorite book of all time, "The Anatomy…"

"One more thing. Avastin CAN cause bowel perforations, but they're very rare, and usually happen in older patients. I had a bout of acute diverticulitis while on it and scared the ca-ca out of everyone, but it wasn't a perf. Had nothing to…"

"Just a word about Avastin side effects. I had Stage III CRC and had Avastin in a clinical trial. My Avastin treatment lasted six months longer than my Folfox, so I was on Avastin alone for quite a while. All I really noticed was runny noses and…"

Christine LeGrant commented on Jane Ali's group Horse of Course
"Eww! Nasty stingy bugs! One of my all time favorite horses was a Palomino named Rocky. He was a very high strung rescue horse I worked with when I was learning how to rehab. We eventually got along really well and he moved on to a forever home. He…"

Profile Information

Survivor Status:
Survivor (In treatment or post treatment), Child of a Survivor (includes Adult Children of Survivors), Friend of a Survivor, Medical Professional
About Me:
I am 54 years old, married and the mother of an 11 year old daughter. I'm a physician assistant and a former oncology nurse. I was diagnosed with Stage III colon cancer at my first screening colonoscopy at age 51. I had no symptoms. I'm in my third year of remission. I owe my life to state-of-the-art, accessible health care. I want everyone to have the same lifesaving care that I had. I won't rest until that happens.
Inspirational Quote:
As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.

I just had a "good news" visit with my oncologist. That's good for a few days of euphoria at least! I'm all clear until April. No appointment, no tests, no scans, no nothing! At first these long periods of no attention were scary, but now I'm getting used to it. Five months is the longest I've ever gone without seeing my onc, though. It feels like going away to college by myself for the first time.

One adult asked if men and women had colons, which is why I say this in the video. We can't take anything for granted when it comes to body parts! Let's face it...did many of us know that we had 20 feet of intestine and five feet of bowel?

Hi Christine,
Thank God you were checked and that you had successful treatment! Many of my family members are now going, early and regularly...a few have had growths removed. I try to tell my story and save others...thanks for taking the time to comment.
Blessings,
Jean

“AJ, I'm buying the first 100 for my ministry with the team. This is an excellent resource -- clear, applicable, well written! You and Vera have written one of the most significant and useful devotionals I've seen in a long time. Ravens players and coaches will love this tool for training camp! I'm excited to see it go to print and I'm honored to be a friend of one of the co-authors, a true champion indeed.”
