LIFE....

Is full of surprises. Some surprises lead to happiness and are more exciting than we could ever dream. Some surprises are not what we pictured or ever wanted. Thirteen years ago stage IV colon cancer was the terrible surprise that forever changed my LIFE. With a grim prognosis and few treatment options, Ronnie and I prepared for the worst and were too afraid to even imagine the best.

We were lucky. We discovered strength from the support and experience of other survivors. We…

Yoga for Survivors' to Celebrate!

Restorative Yoga is becoming more well-known and is widely used for cancer patients and survivorship.

The word yoga means 'union' and restorative yoga is an extremely gentle yoga, done with blankets,

props, and can be done in bed!  The slow, deep breathing is the heart of restorative yoga and the

'asana's' or postures are done by supporting every joint with many blankets, so that our muscles relax

into position and we can focus on 'feeling' our bodies,…

Miracles All Around

I walked through the woods this morning before heading to the hospital...savoring the wonder of the crisp air. The leaves filled with color, drifting slowly around me in the breeze. The distant sound of a hoot owl and the crunch of leaves beneath my steps were all that broke the peaceful silence of my thoughts. I doubled back behind the pasture and watched as Boo, who blessedly made it through the summer, tossed his head and made a quick trek around the paddock. I knew in that instant that…

Passion: A Healing Force for Cancer and Life

I know a lot about passion because in the process of living, I lost it, but in the process of almost dying from cancer, I found it again.

My life used to be about three things: pleasing, proving and achieving. I thought that if enough people liked me, I would feel better about being me. Other people's approval and validation were the source of my self-esteem. .

I made impossible promises that were hard to keep because I was afraid to say no.. I lived in fear that people… Continue

Connecting to others through giving

Give, give, give—what is the point of having experience, knowledge, or talent if I don’t give it away? Of having stories if I don’t tell them to others? Of having wealth if I don’t share it? I don’t intend to be cremated with any of it! It is in giving that I connect with others, with the world, and with the divine.

I was very struck today while reading these beautiful words from novelist Isabel Allende from a book called This I Believe: The Personal Philosophies of Remarkable… Continue

A Reason For Hope

Most people know the story of Job in the bible, how he went through great trial and tribulation, lost just about everything and finally made it through the other side.

In Job 6:11, Job says: “What strength do I have, that I should still hope? What prospects, that I should be patient?"

Have you ever thought or said those words? I know I have. I spoke on Saturday in Denver to a group of doctors, nurses and cancer survivors on the topic of surviving, thriving and celebrating… Continue

Need a Hug?

Those times when you feel like you are all alone, with uncertainly filling your mind and despair filling your heart, know that God is there in that room with you. He's waiting for you to reach out, to cry out, to ask for Him to wrap his arms around you. And He will. You are not alone. There is hope. God loves you! Sometimes He works "solo," and sometimes He works through your friends -- or even strangers. Reach out to Him, and reach out to us. We'll be there for you, praying with you, walking… Continue
