I was asked by a friend at work to join their Iron Girl team, she asked if I would be willing to do the swimming of the Iron Girl. I thought to myself I can swim sure I'll do it. What was I thinking!
I started training the 1st week in January. Another friend of mine is doing the Iron Girl but not as a team all of it. I thought she would be a great help with the swimming. We got to the pool at 8am on a cold Wednesday morning. Water was cold! Judi my friend went over how many…

AJ & I arrived in Orlando, FL on Monday. We were excited to be here. Thursday, Friday & Saturday is the PGA show and we have our new All Natural Bar we were promoting and launching. Tuesday we woke early and started our day. We knew we were meeting a friend for dinner and going to see a movie. The movie was "Letters to God". An awesome movie and I recommend everyone go see it. It opens in theaters on April 9, 2010. This is a story about a young boy who has brain cancer and how he writes…

Have I mentioned lately that I hate Mondays?
Up at 5:30. Fifteen minutes of yoga stretches, 45 minutes of writing before Casey woke up (well, M. woke up but I told her to go back to sleep, and she’s still young enough to respect that.) Got dogs out by 7 a.m., noticed that the wind was picking up and the snow – the wet, sticky kind that turns coated dogs with furnishings into Michelin Man lookalikes – was starting to accumulate. Noticed that no one had plowed, or shoveled. So far, on…

This past Christmas something magical happened. No, not like when I was six when my teenage brother Abbey, who I shared a room with, convinced me that Santa was flying off in his sleigh high into the early morning sky. Now that was magical. Several years later I figured out that the sleigh I thought I saw was probably the reflection off of a high-flying jet airplane soaring away to some far off land at 25,000 feet. To a drowsy-eyed young boy eager to believe in all of Christmas wonderment, that…

Sara shared a quote earlier that seemed to come just at the right time.
If you are going through hell, keep going.

It has been one of those days - and not because of cancer!!
Being a parent is the greatest joy of my life. There has been nothing more miraculous than watching my girls grow up, to see them learn from their mistakes, to find pride in their accomplishments, and to witness them setting goals and achieving dreams. Those…

I used to think I was a nice person. I let people with fewer groceries get in front of me in line, I paid for someone else’s coffee, I even helped little old ladies across the street (until I noticed I was older than most of them)! That was before all of the H1N1 hysteria started in earnest.
When every news report began to be filled with statistics and alarming information about how many people could potentially be affected by this pandemic, even I started to get nervous. I…

It's the time of year when families begin to gather to celebrate the holidays, which for me means reminiscing about days gone by. I'm sort of distance-deprived when it comes to most of my family these days, since nearly everyone I hold dear lives at least a plane flight or day's drive away.
As a kid, everyone I knew lived right where I did -- all of my immediate family, my aunts and uncles, cousins and grandparents were within a few miles radius. Because we didn’t have a lot of…

It is very hard for me to write this. Becky Hoban Hines passes away on Monday, September 21, 2009. I met Becky for the first time at the Liver Symposium in Chicago. What a lady! She was so happy and so excited to meet new people. She danced on stage with Jim Belushi that night. It is awesome to look back and watch her. She was so excited. She was full of life and enjoying every minute dancing.
The next time I met Becky was in Denver at the next Liver Symposium. Becky was wonderful when I…

What a weekend. The show was great! Friday it was raining so hard but Howie, Chris, Linda, Jen & I worked through the rain. We waited to set up the stadium jumps as long as we could but the rain would not stop. Howie went out to finish the cross country jumps and it started to pour. He was soaked when he got back. Linda, Jen, Chris & I were soaked when we finally finished the stadium course.
Saturday we were hoping to see the sun but at least the rain held off until the…

What a week AJ & I have had. First spending time with our dear friend Kathy in Malibu and then Pastor Ralph and Lady Angela for a few days. The Gatsby Jazz Festival was great and it was wonderful hooking up with Marcus Johnson and his lovely wife Rhonda. Music was awesome. From LA we headed to Las Vegas to the PGA Show. Again met some wonderful people at the golf event. Lots of golfers telling me about their mom or their wife who was going through cancer and how happy they were to support…
