Survivor Celebration - Inspiring and Empowering Cancer Survivors

I was asked by a friend at work to join their Iron Girl team, she asked if I would be willing to do the swimming of the Iron Girl.  I thought to myself I can swim sure I'll do it.  What was I thinking!

I started training the 1st week in January.  Another friend of mine is doing the Iron Girl but not as a team all of it.  I thought she would be a great help with the swimming.  We got to the pool at 8am on a cold Wednesday morning.  Water was cold!  Judi my friend went over how many laps I would need to swim for the Iron Girl.  Again what was I thinking, the most I've swam is 10 laps, Judi told me I needed to swim at least 50!

I swam 40 laps that day and thought I was going to die.  It wasn't pretty, I did those laps anyway I could, free style, back stroke, breast stroke and doggy paddle.  In an hour I did it.  Judi proceeds to tell me she did those laps in 20 min.  What was I thinking?

It's been 2 months since I started swimming every Wednesday well I did cheat last week and didn't go.  I'm swimming 50 laps in about 40 minutes so I'm getting my time down.  Oh yes, the Iron Girl is in August so I have 6 months to get my time down to 20 min.

I told my daughter Amy I was swimming and she just laughed.  When I told her I had to swim in this lake she said she would be ready with bacteria disenfective when I got out, very funny!

This is one of the items on my bucket list so I'm glad I'm doing it.  I'm glad after I swim I don't have to bike 17.5 miles and then run 3.5 miles.  I'm first and I just have to swim a little over a mile and a 1/2.

I can do this!  I'll keep you updated, AJ took some photo's of my first swim I don't think I will post those!
